Teen Patti Hand Rankings: Every Hand From Trail to High Card

The order of hands, how ties are broken, and how often each one actually shows up — calculated, not copied.

Three aces fanned on green felt next to red and gold chips, the highest Teen Patti trail

Teen Patti hands rank, from highest to lowest: trail (three of a kind), pure sequence (straight flush), sequence (straight), colour (flush), pair, and high card. Within a rank, higher cards win; A-A-A is the best possible hand and 2-3-5 of mixed suits the worst.

The six hands, explained

1. Trail (Set / Trio)

Three cards of the same rank. A-A-A is highest, 2-2-2 lowest. 52 combinations — about 1 in 425 deals.

2. Pure sequence (Straight flush)

Three consecutive cards of the same suit. A-K-Q is highest. 48 combinations — about 1 in 460.

3. Sequence (Straight / Run)

Three consecutive cards, mixed suits. 720 combinations — about 1 in 31.

4. Colour (Flush)

Three cards of one suit, not in sequence. 1,096 combinations — about 1 in 20.

5. Pair (Double)

Two cards of the same rank. 3,744 combinations — about 1 in 6.

6. High card

Anything else. 16,440 combinations — about 3 in 4.

A-A-A: the highest hand in standard Teen Patti.

How are ties broken?

  • Trail vs trail: higher rank wins.
  • Sequences: compare the highest card; A-K-Q beats K-Q-J. Most tables rank A-2-3 just below A-K-Q (some rank it lowest — agree first).
  • Colour vs colour: compare highest card, then second, then third.
  • Pair vs pair: higher pair wins; if equal, the odd card decides.
  • High card: compare top card, then the next.
  • If two hands are exactly equal, house rules apply — often the player who asked for the show loses.

Why does a trail outrank a pure sequence when it’s more common?

Mathematically, pure sequences (48) are slightly rarer than trails (52). Traditional rules still rank the trail higher — a quirk worth knowing, but standard tables and apps follow tradition.
